Course Description

This course explores the basic principles of conducting research in psychology. Some of the topics include, but are not limited to: research design, data collection, analysis, reporting results, and ethics of doing research. This course should be completed by the beginning of junior year.

1. Demonstrate ethical and critical thinking in research design.

2. Find, summarize, and evaluate published psychological research verbally and in writing.

3. Formulate and specify research questions and hypotheses in writing.

4. Identify and explain appropriate study designs to address research hypotheses.

5. Demonstrate applied use of descriptive and inferential statistics with software tools and written reports.

6. Articulate, in writing, appropriate future directions for research based on the results of statistical analyses.

7. Demonstrate proper adherence to APA style conventions in written reports.
