Course Description
Companion course to MCO 203B and recommended to be taken prior to or in conjunction with MCO 203B. This course continues to build upon the information learned in MCOPC/MCO 180, MCO 201A, and MCO 202A. Continued exploration into several body systems are discussed in terms of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology. Students will be expected to understand and apply the knowledge from this course to reading and comprehending patient charts and documentation.
1. Analyze and understand medical terminology associated with each body system presented by applying meanings of basic combining forms, prefixes, and suffixes of the medical language to build and/or break down medical words.
2. Name the organs and structures related to each body system presented, their locations and functions, as well as describe the related signs, symptoms, and disease conditions of each system.
3. Apply new knowledge to understanding medical terms in their proper contexts, such as in medical reports and records.
4. Demonstrate a familiarity with the normal pharmacologic agents, diagnostic studies and treatments or procedures for many common diseases/disorders for each body system presented.
