Personal Finance

Course Description

Introduces self-reliance and basic financial principles. Focuses primarily on math computations, using personal financial topics to learn how to make decisions as a result of an analysis of the numbers involved. These personal financial concepts include goal setting, budgeting, major purchase decision making, credit, risk analysis, investments and retirement. Critical and creative thinking skills are demonstrated by solving practical everyday personal financial story problems. Also introduces basic business principles.

1. Apply correct financial principles and skills in the context of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as “wise stewards” over lifelong temporal affairs.

2. Apply key formulas, tools (including Excel spreadsheets), and math concepts to make well-informed financial decisions.\

3. Apply the principles of compound interest to investments and loans and demonstrate an understanding of the related terms and conditions.

4. Demonstrate the use of financial tools to solve time value of money problems.
