Course Retakes
Statement of Policy
BYU-Pathway Worldwide supports BYU-Idaho, Ensign College, Institutes of Religion, and BYU-Pathway Worldwide online programs and coursework managed by a distinct academic catalog. Programs and enrollment offered directly by BYU-Idaho and Ensign College are managed by their respective campus based academic catalogs. Therefore, this policy applies only to programs and enrollments offered through BYU-Pathway Worldwide.
Students are typically allowed to re-enroll in courses only when the minimum grade requirement has not been met. When a course is retaken, the highest grade earned in the course, or its equivalent course, is utilized in the credit and grade calculations. Previous enrollments of courses, or their equivalent courses, remain on the transcript and are designated as “retaken” and will not fulfill degree requirements. Duplicate credit is not awarded for multiple enrollments of non-repeatable courses and their equivalents.
When a course is discontinued the opportunity to retake that course is no longer available. In some cases, a replacement course may be available to complete the applicable graduation requirement. If a course changes credits between a student’s attempts (1st attempt equals 3 credits, 2nd attempt equals 2 credits), the lower grade and associated credits (3 credits in this example) are removed, and the higher grade and associated credits (2 credits) are included in the GPA calculation.
Courses offered through BYU-Pathway Worldwide cannot be replaced by equivalent courses from other institutions. Ensign College and BYU-Idaho are distinct institutions. Equivalent courses taken at one partner institution will not replace the credits and grades for courses taken from another partner institution.
